Cultivating Care & Community:
USJ's Holistic Support InitiativeAt USJ, we believe that education flourishes when our students feel supported, secure, and empowered. More than just a place of learning, USJ strives to be a vibrant community where every member thrives. To this end, we are proud to launch a comprehensive initiative designed to alleviate burdens, foster solidarity, and ensure that vital resources are accessible to all – driven by the generosity of our entire campus family and beyond.
This initiative features two distinct yet interconnected programs, inviting our Community, Staff, Faculty, and Students to contribute to a culture of compassion and practical support.
1. Equipping for Success: Community, Staff, & Faculty General DonationsWe invite our extended USJ community – faculty, staff, and local supporters – to contribute essential items that will directly benefit our need-based students. Your donations equip students not just for academic success, but also for daily comfort and peace of mind.
What We Need Your Help With:
Electronics for the Modern Learner:
Laptops (lightly used, working condition)
Earphones & Cell phones (working condition)
Prepaid Cell Phone Credit (new, unused)
Software (e.g., 1-year Microsoft Word license)
Knowledge & Inspiration: Fuel academic journeys and personal growth.
Current Textbooks (from 2010 to current, in good condition)
Novels (contemporary or classic, in good condition)
Albums (music, for relaxation and enjoyment)
Backpacks, Binders, Composition Books, Pens, Pencils, Calculators, Highlighters, Rulers, Staplers, Hand Sanitizer, Tissues
Comfort & Well-being:
Provide a touch of home and warmth.
Blankets, Socks, Gloves, Hats, Towels (new or gently used, clean)



How to Donate: Please bring your general donations to the USJ Charity Groups Departments. Look for designated drop-off points, and our staff will be happy to assist you.
2. Students Helping Students: "Food for Fines" & Hygiene Drive
Our students are integral to the heart of USJ, and this program offers a unique opportunity for them to support their peers while also easing their own financial pressures. If you have overdue library fines, you can now reduce them by donating packaged food or new hygiene products!
Support Our Need-Based Students OR Reduce Your Support Fees:
For every 10 or 20 items donated, you can receive $5.00 or $10.00 off your recent, support fess. It's a win-win: you help a fellow student in need, and you get a discount on your fees and fines!
How the Exchange Works:
Bring your accepted items to any USJ Charity Groups Departments checkout desk to make an exchange.
$5.00 Exchange Value: Any single packaged food item that meets the condition requirements and weighs 6 ounces or more.
Suggested High Protein/Easily Prepared Items: Canned beans, low sodium canned soup/stew, pasta, pasta sauce.
$10.00 Bonus Exchange Value: Donating specific hygiene items or larger food sizes are worth double! Only items on the following list qualify for the bonus:

Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, mouthwash,
or shaving cream (10 oz. or greater)
1 multi-pack of disposable razors in a sealed package
1 multi-pack bars of soap
1 multi-pack of shampoo and conditioner

Important Limitations (Please Read Carefully):
The library does not accept any items that are opened, dented, damaged, or expired. All donations must be in new, sealed, and good condition.
Exchanges apply only to recent, fees and overdue fines.
Fines over 1 year old, already paid, or sent to a collections agency are excluded.
This program does not apply to charges related to replacement or damage of library materials.

Community Support Services Locations in Houston:
Schedule an appointment with the community support center to access resources and assistance.
