Foundation of Mental Health Justice Assistant
Course Description:
The 8 weeks Foundation of Mental Health Justice Assistant course is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to support mental health justice in underserved communities. Through a comprehensive 8-week program, students will learn about the principles of mental health justice, the role of the justice assistant, and the skills required to effectively support mental health justice.
Course Objectives:
Understand the Principles of Mental Health Justice: Define and analyze the principles of mental health justice, including the importance of cultural competence, trauma-informed care, and human rights.
Learn about the Role of the Justice Assistant: Understand the role of the justice assistant in supporting mental health justice, including community outreach, education, and advocacy.
Develop Skills in Trauma-Informed Care: Develop skills in trauma-informed care, including recognizing and responding to trauma, creating safe spaces, and promoting resilience.
Understand the Importance of Cultural Competence: Learn about the importance of cultural competence in mental health justice, including understanding cultural differences and addressing cultural barriers.
Learn about Mental Health Conditions: Understand the common mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, and psychosis, and how they impact individuals and communities.
Develop Skills in Crisis Intervention: Develop skills in crisis intervention, including de-escalation techniques, crisis planning, and emergency response.
Understand the Role of Technology in Mental Health Justice: Learn about the role of technology in mental health justice, including digital health, telehealth, and social media.
