Nurse Administration Justice Assistant
Course Description:This comprehensive 8-week course is designed to equip aspiring Nurse Administration Justice Assistants with the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary to support healthcare administrators and justice-related processes within medical settings. Through a combination of theoretical understanding and practical applications, participants will explore the roles, responsibilities, and ethical considerations involved in nurse administration and justice support. The course aims to prepare students for effective participation in healthcare teams, emphasizing communication, legal compliance, and administrative efficiency.
Course Objectives:

WEEK 1: FOUNDATIONS & FIRST IMPRESSIONS (COURSE DAY 1-3)
Topics: Arrival protocols, EHR login, and the Pillars of Nursing Law. Discussion 1: Defining "Patient-Centered Care." Assignment 1: Unit Safety
Walkthrough Audit.
Duties: Greet staff/visitors, check master schedule, log into EHR, verify station tech, safety sweep, update On-Call roster, Census data entry, scan charts,
welcome packets, handle switchboard, interdisciplinary huddle.
WEEK 2: DATA HYGIENE & BASIC CARE (COURSE DAY 4-6)
Topics: Accurate charting, Vitals calibration, and Malpractice vs. Negligence. Discussion 2: Common Documentation Pitfalls. Assignment 2:
Mock Vital Signs Recording & SOAP Note.
Duties: Admission logs audit, med reconciliation forms, remind MDs of orders, update phone lists, draft newsletter, timestamping faxes, PPE usage
tracking, WHO 7-step handwash, ambulation support.
WEEK 3: LOGISTICS & TEAM COMMUNICATION (COURSE DAY 7-9)
Topics: Patient journey logistics, SBAR hand-offs, and Informed Consent. Discussion 3: Ethical Dilemmas in Toileting/Privacy. Assignment 3:
Drafting an Informed Consent Checklist.
Duties: Room signage, consult confirmation, radiology transport, interpreter services, dietary preference board, discharge packets, insurance verification,
call-light empathy, repositioning clock.
WEEK 4: STAFFING & RISK MANAGEMENT (COURSE DAY 10-12)

Topics: Workforce metrics, high-risk medication awareness, and Fall Prevention. MIDTERM EXAM (Day 12).
Assisgnment: Overtime audit, holiday calendar, float pool roster, last-minute call-ins, competency matrix, shift-reminder texts, medication error reporting form,
root-cause analysis (RCA) flowchart.
WEEK 5: QUALITY, SAFETY & EVIDENCE (COURSE DAY 13-15)
Topics: Infection control, Special Populations (Dementia/Palliative), and Evidence Preservation. Discussion 4: Protecting the Patient Record
Chain-of-Custody. Assignment 4: Incident Narrative drafting.
Duties: Infection checklist, upload incident reports (24hr), lock/stock med carts, expiry reports, Joint Commission mock survey, dementia validation
therapy, isolation protocols, evidence preservation checklist.
WEEK 6: TECHNOLOGY & COURTROOM TESTIMONY (COURSE DAY 16-18)
Topics: Innovation tools (EHR Apps/Barcode Scanning) and Direct/Cross-Examination. FIELD TRIP (Day 18). Assignment 5: Field Trip
Analytical Report.
Duties: EHR App tutorial, video how-to for labs, test patient portals, asset-management serial numbers, barcodes medication scanning, glossary of legal
terms (voir dire, affidavit), testimony confidence check.
WEEK 7: INTERDEPARTMENTAL LIAISON & ETHICS (COURSE DAY 19-21)
Topics: Breaking silos (Pharmacy/Labs), Compassion Fatigue, and Whistleblowing. Discussion 5: Moral Distress at the Bedside. Assignment
6: Advocacy Action Plan for a Vulnerable Patient.
Duties: Pharmacy/Lab turnaround meetings, rapid-response debriefs, shadow days, inter-unit referrals, self-care checklists, moral distress log, position
paper on Autonomy vs. Safety.
WEEK 8: LEADERSHIP & CAPSTONE INTEGRATION (COURSE DAY 22-24)
Topics: Mentoring, Efficiency Proposals, and Professional Exit. Discussion 6: Your Career Roadmap. FINAL EXAM (Day 24).
Duties: Mentor new admin, lead best-practice huddle, year-in-review infographic, efficiency project proposal, update competency portfolio, final selfaudit, duty sign-off.
IV. Internship & Lab Requirements (120 Hours)
Students must complete 120 hours of onsite internship. - Evaluation: 20 points based on successful completion of the "Duty Mastery
Checklist" signed by an RN Preceptor. - Location: Assigned Clinical Sites (Justice Medical Center or Heritage Nursing Home).
